After many years of thinking, planning and educating ourselves....WE BOUGHT THE FARM! Welcome to White Owl Farms, LLC. In August, 2015 three sisters decided it was time to jump into this farming endeavor when we drove past a beautiful, peaceful piece of property. We fell in love with what we saw, breathed in the fresh air and imagined the possibilities!
Since August, we have scrubbed, painted and redone the floors in the house (we lived in our trailer for a month so the kids could start at their new schools), cleaned and organized the garage and started to wash down the barns.
In September we brought home 32 chicks, we have loved them and nutured them. They roam the property during the day and get locked in their happy home at night. The chickens have been laying since January, some have gotten names (Goldie, Ace, Martha, Blue, Roadrunner, Speedy) and some are our favorites! The kids have decided its not a great idea to name the roosters, they don't always have long lives! The kids have a pretty good sense of reality about this farming adventure!
As of March we have 26 chickens, 1 barn cat, 2 very adorable kittens, 1 mama cat and 1 jealous dog! We lost some of our chickens to predators and others to being bad roosters. We are learning the farmers way!
In late February we picked up 120 chicks! We will be ready to start selling our tasty eggs in July!
